About Tallow

What is tallow?

Rowdy Ranch Tallow is the result of a delicate and tedious process of purifying, or rendering, grass-fed beef suet, which is the nutrient-dense fat surrounding the kidneys. Used for centuries, tallow is the ultimate healing and soothing moisturizer for skin. It replenishes the building blocks of our skin that
decrease with age. Yay! Healthy fats equal healthy skin. Our tallow is made from grass-fed suet and blended with therapeutic grade essential oils for specific purposes to best nurture your skin. We like to call it Farm to Skin!

Benefits of tallow:

  • Vitamin E - promotes skin rejuvenation by combatting wrinkle-causing free radicals and prevents the breakdown of collagen.
  • Vitamins A, D and K. These vitamins are only found to work synergistically in animal oil. These fat-soluble vitamins have naturally occurring antimicrobial, anti-cancer, and anti-infammatory properties. Combine them with our plant oils and it’s the perfect match!
  • Stearic Acid – repairs damaged skin, improves skin’s fexibility and suppleness.
  • Rich in minerals.
  • Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) - kills bacteria and calms infamed skin.
  • Omega 9 (Oleic Acid) – amazing carrier to the other oils and penetrates these nutrients deep into the skin.
  • Lipids - responsible for moisture in every cell in our bodies. They create a protective barrier that maintains moisture and cell structure, and protects against infection.
  • Hydrates at the cellular level without suffocating the skin’s natural barrier like petroleum-based lotions.

We use our tallow for:

Face cream • Sunburns • Rashes • Dry, chapped skin • Heel cracks • Diaper rash • Gentle eye cream • Lip balm • Body moisturizer • Age spots • Blemishes

Tallow FAQ

  • When is the best time to use my tallow?
    • I like to put tallow on my face at night, my entire body morning or night, and my hands throughout the day! Use as needed. A little dab goes a long way!
  • How long will my tallow last?
    • Your tallow will stay fresh for at least 8 months if kept out of direct sunlight and heat.
  • Where should I store my tallow?
    • Tallow can be stored in a cool, dry place and does not need to be refrigerated.
  • Why are there occasional small bumps in my tallow?
    • Tallow is rendered, cooled, and whipped in small batches, and must cool before it is whipped. The tallow on the edges of the bowl cools faster than the tallow in the center. It is then all whipped together. The small chunks are pieces of the tallow from the edges of the bowl that cooled more quickly. If you rub them in your fingers they will soften and spread.
  • Why are my tallows slightly different colors and textures?
    • Tallow is made in small batches and not in a factory, so there can be some deviation in batches. The temperature of the tallow and the environment when it is whipped can cause slight variations in the texture. The type of grass the cows ate can play a role in the color and scent of the tallow. Some may be more yellow, while some may have a whiter color.
